Boron is the automobile fuel of the future
Home Page

There is a new book by Tom Blees (as of the Fall of 2008) called Prescription for the Planet.  It describes 3 technological solutions to our energy and environmental crisis and the political framework necessary to achieve them.

Automobiles contribute greatly to air pollution, yet we continue to use internal combustion engines running on fossil fuels which are running out.  We could totally replace our need for petroleum to power automobiles by developing cars powered by boron.  It can be done.

Chapter 5 of Prescription for the Planet is about running automobilies of the future on the fuel of the future - boron.   You can read the first chapter of this book on line at

The need for a new automobile fuel

America and the world need a new fuel for automobiles.  The world's oil supply is finite and many say that we are already in the era of "peak oil", where we have used up more than half the world's oil supplies.  The rest are harder and more expensive to get at.  (Do a web search on "peak oil" to find out more.)  Burning gasoline is a non-renewable way to power cars.

We have fought wars and killed hundreds of thousands of people in wars over oil for decades.  The war in Iraq is the latest.

Automobile exhaust contributes hugely to particulate and toxic air pollution, greenhouse gases, smog, and health effects for millions.

The internal combustion engine is really an old technology, dating back to the 1880s.  It has essentially remained the same, although it has gotten more efficient and less polluting.

Air pollution affects everyone.  Acid rain, one of the effects, has poisoned lakes, killed whole forests, and destroyed the habitat for wildlife.  The circle of life that includes humans closes in on us.  We urgently need an alternative, a solution.

Fortunately, one exists.

The ideal fuel for an automobile would be able to carry large amounts of energy in a small volume and small mass.  It would be used in a totally renewable, non polluting process.  It would be priced comparably to gasoline, mile for mile.

Read Prescription for the Planet to learn about the technology, how we can switch over to it, and what political obstacles must be overcome.

America drastically needs to change our reliance on petroleum as fuel for automobiles.  Millions of lives and the foreign policy of the whole country, and peace for large portions of the world, continue to be sacrificed because of this need for oil.  All of this can be changed.  YOU can be a part of this change.  Change will begin with knowledge, awareness, and then political action.  If you want to be a part of that change, research boron as an automobile fuel source.  Buy Prescription for the Planet from the website

What is boron?

Boron is the 5th element in the periodic table.  It is a Group 13 element that has properties which are borderline between metals and non-metals (semimetallic). It is a semiconductor rather than a metallic conductor. Chemically it is closer to silicon than to aluminum, gallium, indium, and thallium.

What makes it the ideal automobile fuel is a combination of properties:

It carries the greatest amount of energy, per unit of volume or per unit of weight compared to hydrocarbon fuels like gasoline.

The boron cars of the future will enable the driver to fill up the "tank", by getting a new supply of boron, for about 25-50¢/gallon, which would mean you could fill up for about five bucks or so.  This full tank will deliver about the same mileage as a full tank of gasoline.

The process will be entirely non polluting.  Although today's cars burn more cleanly and produce less air pollution than cars of 20 or 30 years ago, they still pollute the air.  Cars running on boron will not.

That change alone will enable the U.S. to drastically improve our air quality.  It will improve the health effects for everyone, especially those with asthma or respiratory problems.
